All our physiotherapists are trained in Acupuncture through the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada.

What is acupuncture?
A therapeutic method of treatment, acupuncture is used to promote healing, relieve and reduce pain, and improve the functionality of affected areas of the body. The treatment consists of the insertion of extremely fine needles into the skin and tissues at specific points in the body.

How does acupuncture work?
Acupuncture works to help the body produce endorphins, the body’s own natural pain relieving chemicals. These assist the body by helping to block pathways that relay pain signals from the body to the brain, which results in overall relaxation, pain relief, and the biochemical restoration and balancing of the internal regulation systems of your body.

Are there any negative effects or risks to the treatments?
In the vast majority of cases, patients find the acupuncture treatments cause very little discomfort and are actually relaxing.

Do the acupuncture needles hurt?
Typically, patients feel only very minor discomfort as the needles are inserted. Many feel absolutely no pain at all. Once in place, the needles should cause no significant discomfort.

During the treatment, the special acupuncture needles (one-time-use, disposable, sterilized needles) are inserted and left for 10-15 minutes. This depends on the required treatment.
